This is a three-part series primarily focused on young adults ages 17-25.

Part 1 of 3: The Top 10 ‘Gut Check’ Questions.

Part 2 of 3: Schedule 60 Hours Spanning 7 Days.

Part 3 of 3: Why do we call the Top 10 questions a ‘Gut Check?’

Part 3 of 3: Why do we call the Top 10 questions a ‘Gut Check?

You may be wondering why we call the Top 10 questions a ‘Gut Check.’ Here’s the answer: Regardless of whether or not a young adult believes the Top 10 ‘Gut Check’ Questions are important, society will hold young adults accountable for them. Stated another way, society holds all adults accountable for their level of commitment to hard work (aka Work Ethic), for their sustained level of effort when obstacles appear (aka Drive), and for what they produce (aka Job performance, Output, and Results). In order to illustrate this perspective, consider the following questions that everyone will eventually get asked:

1. What line of work (aka Career field, profession or business) are you in?

2. How many years have you worked at your current or previous job? and

3. What are your most important professional accomplishments from your years of work?

Performing 60 hours of the success-focused activities in accordance with the Top 10 list (shown in Part 1) every 7 days enables you to take control of your life, to drive it toward success instead of wasting time and becoming a victim of whatever comes along, and to have great answers when asked the three questions provided above. That’s why young adults should hold themselves accountable to the Top 10 ‘Gut Check’ Questions.

With that being said, if a young adult cannot honesty account for at least 60 hours per week of active engagement spread across one or more of the Top 10 list activities shown in Part 1 during most weeks of the year, then you should ask yourself why? If you cannot arrive at a credible answer, then perhaps it’s time to make some changes that will put you on the pathway to success. Many people claim that they will get on the success track soon, they ‘just need some time’ to have fun. Unfortunately, there is evidence that ‘life happens’ and many people who had plans to pursue a life of success instead have to struggle just to survive or perhaps become overly dependent on family and friends. That’s why it’s so important for responsible young adult leaders to be proactive, to take the initiative by scheduling (and completing) 60-hour success-focused 7-day weeks, and to drive hard toward success starting now.

In closing, note that using the calendar app located on every phone is a great way to schedule your 60 hours per week of active engagement spread across one or more of the Top 10 success-focused activities. Additionally, some people use their phone’s timer to keep track of each active session. A good way to stay motivated is to keep a list of your weekly, monthly, and end of year success-focused accomplishments. If you assess where you stand now in regard to the Top 10 ‘Gut Check’ Questions and then increase your effort up to 60 hours of success-focused activities every 7-day, then you will be amazed at what you will be able to accomplish. Please give the Top 10 list an honest try over the span of at least 4-6 weeks and leave us feedback at overtonleaders.com.
