Does your career choice align with your desired choice of city, state or country?

For example, if an individual is pursuing an undergraduate degree in Marine Biology, then it is more likely that he/she will land a job in Florida instead of Kansas. Likewise, oil and gas jobs are more plentiful in North Dakota than in Arizona. If your career choice requires physical presence, then make sure that you are willing to live where those jobs are plentiful. This relocation dilemma is why some students pursue universal majors at the undergraduate level, get their first degree and land their first job wherever they can, and then build the depth and breadth of experience that will lead them to their desired city, state or country. As you chart your career, keep in mind that relocation to another city, state or country may be the best course of action to achieve your long-term goals—do not discount this possibility strictly due to short-term inconveniences.
